For the first time, three emerging market companies lead Newsweek Green Ranking Global 500 List – October 22, 2012

For the first time, three emerging markets companies – Banco Santander (Brazil), Banco Bradesco (Brazil) and the IT company Wipro (India) – lead Newsweek Green Rankings Global 500 List.

Newsweek works with its research partners Sustainalytics and Trucost to annually conduct the ranking of the 500 largest publicly traded companies worldwide and the 500 largest publicly traded companies in the USA.

Disclosure by emerging markets companies overall increased by approximately eight percent vis-à-vis 2011.  Heather Lang, Sustainalytics’ Director of Research Products, North America noted “it is very encouraging to see enhanced disclosure and environmental leadership coming from emerging markets. Though there is still considerable headway to be made in normalizing this trend, we expect it will increase in the years ahead.”
