According the half-yearly report published by Petercam in February 2014 – Sustainability Ranking – Emerging Countries, “Emerging economies are generally considered to have high potential, notably due to their young and growing population.  Although most are not always seen as having sustainability or recognised democratic processes, integrating sustainability criteria into the management of a portfolio investing in these countries can be of real added value.”

Led by Poland, Hungary and Slovakia, the top ten countries of the 84 countries ranked are all from Central and Eastern Europe, with the exception of Costa Rica (seven) and Uruguay (10).
