“Symbiotics 10th edition MIV Survey reports 20% growth per annum of global microfinance fundsl” – Symbiotics – September 12, 2016

On September 12, 2016 Symbiotics announced the publication of the 10th annual edition of the Symbiotics Microfinance Investment Vehicles (MIV) Survey.

According to Symbiotics, “(t)his unique study provides asset managers, investors and academia alike with the latest information of most of the world’s microfinance fund activity in emerging markets.

This year’s key findings include:

  • The survey’s 10th edition had a record participation rate: 93 microfinance funds out of 113 identified in the global fund universe, representing 95% of this universe in terms of volumes.
  • The fund market size was estimated at USD 11 billion, representing a compounded annual growth of 20% since 2006.
  • Nearly 11% of microfinance volumes were invested in India, followed by Cambodia (9.7%), Ecuador (6.3%), Peru (4.8%) and Georgia (4.6%).”
